Proposal for Final Project:

Could you imagine your dream relationship? Dating or even living with that special someone that you've found and finally having them ask the big question "Will you marry me?" but legally not being allowed to participate in the ceremony of marriage as many others do everyday. Not because there's no love between you and your partner, but because you and your partner are the same sex. Many individuals believe that same sex marriages should not be legalized and those individuals also find the idea of same sex marriages disgusting, but who are those individuals to say whom and whom you cannot love? The relationship between two individuals is special no matter where you come from, who you are, or what gender you are. So why is it that only heterosexual couples are legally allowed to get married everywhere and homosexual couples not? The question is astonishing and an issue which has been around for years, but homosexuality shouldn't affect the way you live your life. That's why I propose same sex marriages should be legalized.

Stigmergy introduced by Pierre-Paul Grasse in the 1950's describes the indirect communication taking place among individuals in social insect societies. Stigmergy originally defined by Grasse in his studies on the reconstruction of termite nests. Grasse showed that the regulation and coordination of the building activity do not depend on the workers themselves but is mainly achieved by the nest. Grasse's concept of stigmergy has been overlooked by students of social insects although it is stimulating.

Proposal Argument:

There are many who say marijuana should be altogether vanished from society, but there are others who think this drug should be legalized. There are many topics of discussion we could get into, and many debates which could occur, but I believe there are so many benefits of this drug that it should be legalized. I believe just the health benefits give the drug potential to be on the market for those who are sick. For my proposal argument I believe marijuana should be legalized.

So far, there's no indication of why there's a need to legalize marijuana. That will be an important thing to argue for, since it's difficult to legalize something that's presently illegal. So, you'll want to think about why people oppose the legalization of marijuana. That will invovle doing some research, I suspect. Once you're clear on those issues, you'll have to make it clear how legalizing marijuana will address some problem, etc. TheKemBlog

When I picked up the Collegian this morning the Headline on the front cover read "Freshman falls from 6th-story window". I read the article and thought that was insane. Could you imagine falling 55 feet in the air and for the first couple of feet you were hanging onto only a bed-sheet tied together with a blanket? I really wonder what he was thinking when he decided to do this. I'm glad he's okay rather than anymore damage that he could've done to himself.

St. Patrick's Day. What a holiday at Penn State. Personally I've talked to quite a few Upperclassmen who were planning on skipping their classes all day to start drinking early this morning. I went to classes, but the walk was dead. There was hardly anyone standing outside or in the HUB. It wasn't really shocking though because after classes I headed downtown and I found were everyone was. This holiday I believe is mostly used by students as an excuse to drink excessively and for some to actually show their pride in their Irish heritage. The amount of green and shamrocks I saw today were extreme, but then again I expected it.

Being home for spring break doesn't seem that exciting, but after being away from home for so long it actually was a great idea in my case. I missed my house and my friends from highschool, and most of all missed watching my High School Basketball team play. Pocono Mountain East basketball in my mind is different from watching any other basketball team, especially when you went to that school. With our rude fans, the Black Hole, and our incredible team it makes for one exciting ball game. Last night was our District 11 Class AAAA game against William Allen, and though we lost the feeling of watching the game was unexplainable. Those are the little things I miss about highschool, but love to come back to.

Lung Cancer is the leading killer in both men and women today, and smoking cigarettes is the leading cause of lung cancer. 87% of lung cancer cases are caused by smoking. The more time you spend smoking and the greater amount you smoke the more you increase your chances of getting lung cancer. Certain chemicals contained in cigarettes not only affect the smoker, but a nonsmoker who surrounds themselves with individuals who smoke (second hand smoke). In this paper I want to show how smoking causes lung cancer.

What about anecdotes about people who smoke their entire lives without suffering from lung cancer? TheKemBlog

Response to Rwanada: How the Genocide Happened

It's hard to imagine living in a country with so much violence, and being fearful of living each and every day. What's even worse is that it's not just occuring over one year, it's been happening over several years. After reading that 100,000 people are imprisoned because of these genocides, it seems like there is a great deal being done about them, but I bet half of those who've committed crimes are still on the streets.

Today was the last home Men's Basketball game and we won! It was also senior night and the only senior on the Men's team was Travis Parker. Most of the games I've gone to have ended in a loss. We started off strong, but towards the end we would lose our lead. Tonight's game was different. We started off strong and didn't give up our lead at all. It was fun. I couldn't imagine what it would be like to be Travis Parker. To play your last home game in your college career. The feeling he must have had was incredible especially when the crowd chanted "Thank You Travis". He truly is a leader and he's turned their team around in ways no one else could've.

I was invited to attend my friends show tonight and it was hilarious. The No Refund Theatre presented their show Sex a.k.a Wieners and Boobs. Yes, the title is obscene, but the show was quite entertaining. They got the audience involved and we didn't stop laughing. Certain scenes didn't seem relevant to the plot, but it didn't really matter. I'm excited to see what the next production they put on is like.

As everyone already knows it's Thon Weekend, but just because I'm not apart of it doesn't mean I didn't want to see what it was all about. Tonight I went to Thon for an hour to experience the biggest student run philanthropy and honestly I was amazed. It wasn't everything I expected, but it was a great sight to witness. Although I was only in the stands dancing with a group of my friends, I got perfect sight of what was going down on the floor. I've never seen a group of people who looked so lively especially after it had officially been more then 24 hours since they were dancing. Next year I definitely want to have more of a part of Thon then I did this year.

"Five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes, five hundred twenty five thousand moments so dear, five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes, how do you measure, measure a year," Seasons of Love from Rent Soundtrack. Once the song plays mostly everyone knows what movie is being talked about. The Broadway musical turned into a movie has been a hit from the day of its movie release, but why. What makes this movie so incredibly great? Is it the fact that it is a Broadway musical or does that have nothing to do with it? Is it the great music or the realness of the plot? I believe it has to do with every one of those things. Rent is an unbelievably great adaptation of the Broadway Musical and I want to show why.

So, you'll argue that the movie Rent is a great adaptation of the musical. Okay, but how will you establish those criteria? One way might be to consider previous adaptations that are generally recognized to be excellent, such as Grease and Chorus Line. And perhaps a more recent one (that may not be excellent) Phantom of the Opera. TheKemBlog

Sunday night television is honestly amazing. Of course there's Desperate Housewives, but the real greatness lies in Grey's Anatomy. Sort of your typical doctor show, but more intense and the surgeries aren't the only things that make the show. The affairs that occur between doctors adds to their plot and makes you curious about what will happen next. Last Sunday there was a code black, when there is a bomb, declared in the Operation Room and the episode was continued in tonights show. After making a home made bazooka and realizing there was a problem when it didn't go off, a man tried to fix it himself causing the bazooka to fire inside of him. There was no explosion and the bomb was stuck inside of him. Could you imagine this situation happening in real life. How would you deal? Not only was there that situation to deal with but a doctor refusing to go through labor after finding out her husband got into a serious car accident while rushing to the hospital to make it on time for the delivery. Not only did her husband get into an accident, but was on the operation table receiving brain surgery. Those are only a few of the scenarios that occurred in Grey's Anatomy this week, but I highly recommend this show or buying the first season on DVD to catch up.

Proposal for Definition Paper:

I want to compare the definition of wives in earlier times compared to the definition of wives today. Over the years the definition of wife has changed. In the earlier times, as it's portrayed in the movie Stepford Wives, many believed that women should marry at a young age and that their role was to cook, clean, and please their husband. Today, the definition of wife has changed drastically. Women not only cook and clean, but also have their own careers. In some cases even, the roles are reversed in households where husband's stay home and do more of the domestic work while women are the primary breadwinners.

Thats an interesting topic, but make sure to specify what kind of wives. In some countries or cultures, the "Stepford Wives" definition is still expected of a woman. You might get more material if you broaden it to more than wives, but to women in society as a whole. Im interested in seeing your opinon on this.

Today I went to an IM wrestling match and it reminded me of the times that I used to be a wrestling manager. I went to watch a friend wrestle who was part of the high school team I used to manage. I know, it doesn't sound like the most exciting job, but it was actually really enjoyable. The members of the team, the coches, and the managers were all like one big happy family. As head manager I did alot; organized t-shirt sales, managed the money in our account, and stayed on top of making sure the team stayed at their weight class. I also stayed in charge of the other managers making sure their job was done right, trained them to take stats correctly, planned Senior night, and all the other exciting stuff having to deal with wrestling. Honestly, I didn't think that IM Wrestling would be so serious, but it was intense being in that wrestling room. I had a great time, and made me miss the boys and girls of my own high school wrestling team.

Response to George W. Bush: Address to a Joint Session of Congress on Terrorist Attacks:

I'm not a big fan of George W. Bush, but I this is my favorite speech of his. After having to deal with an extremely difficult terrorist attack, this speech is definitely the cheer up our nation and other nations needed. Our country was still grieving the loss of so many workers, firemen, policemen, passengers, airline workers, so on and so forth. This speech is powerful, gives the nation hope for a better tomorrow, and unitying all at once. It was incredible how our nation came together at such a time for need. There were moment of silences everywhere, candle lightings, and much more. People needed others to talk to about the situation at hand and I believe very many were willing to be that person that others could come talk to. As I've said before, I remember the exact class, spot, and room I was in when the news arrived to me that our country had been attacked. I remember the feeling I felt when I picked up the telephone to call my mother, and I remember the tears coming down my eyes when she picked up the phone and I knew that she was okay. I've never been as terrified as I was that day. Honestly I couldn't imagine being a relative of someone finding out that their family member or friend was killed. The terrorists who actually planned out this action affected the lives of millions, angered millions of people in many different nations, and forever changed the life of Americans and other nations for that matter because you never know if they have something else up their sleeve.

Response to Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948):

The rights adopted by the General Assemby of the United Nations shaped the way for all Americans today. This declaration made it so all Americans had their freedom, something valued by many Americans today. If this document were never adopted I believe our country would be disgraceful. This shows how the many freedoms we are offered today came about and to that I am grateful. A lot of people today don't know what it's like to grow up during the times where you weren't allowed to speak your mind, when there was slavery and not everyone was not equal in the eyes of the law. There are certain things that people take for granted every day, but by reading this it makes you value what you have.

After reading FDR's speech, the first thing that came to mind when talking about the security of our country was the events that took place on September 11th. I remember that day as if it were yesterday especially because of the worry I had for both my parents. My mother was supposed to be going into New York that day and the route she always took would lead her under the World Trade Center in the shopping center, and my father works in an Arsenal. Thank God neither of them got hurt, my mother decided not to go to New York and my dad's job got evacuated immediately. FDR touched on many subjects in his speech, and at times I was confused with the actual point he was getting at. I'm not sure if I still even fully understand.

"They became the first team to win three away games to make it to the Super Bowl since the 1985 New England Patriots. Some might look at that as a surprise. Anyone who has watched the Steelers over the past decade — and especially the last two months — certainly wouldn't," stated in USA Today. After enduring criticism from everyone who believed they couldn't do it. The Pittsburgh Steelers did the unthinkable. This number 6 seed team made it to the Superbowl. Normally I'm not a big Pro-Football fan, but since starting school at Penn State my roommate managed to convert me into a Steelers fan. Every Sunday like clockwork we watch the games and celebrate when the Steelers win. When many people doubted the fact that the Steelers would win, my roommate and I knew they could do it and couldn't be happier. The Steelers are going to the Superbowl!!!! :)

Edited from CandyLand's Personal Narrative...

I also had trouble creating a name for my blog, but instead of choosing a name for my Blog using a game I loved when I was little I chose words which I believe are inspiring. Also, Candy Land was probably one of my least favorite games when I was little and to this day. I always landed on one of those squares that led me back to the beginning everytime I was extremely close to the end. My major is Marketing, but I'd also like to minor in Business Law because I've always been interested in pursuing a law degree, but more of the business aspects. My roommate and I get along great and are extremely close.

After reading Martin Luther King, Jr.'s letter from Birmingham Jail, people can see the more of a personal view of the struggles and critisism he had to deal with in everyday life. My brother also attends Penn State and informed me that this is the first year that Martin Luther King's birthday is celebrated. Personally I find that to be extremely sad. PSU is such a well-known school and it shouldn't have taken this long for them to celebrate the his birthday. But on the other hand at least they started to. He's such an important person who influenced the fact that many of us attend Penn State today. Hopefully, more is done about celebrating ethnic holidays.

Dream, hope, and imagine, by doing these three things I believe your life will be amazing. Make your dreams endless, hope for an incredible tomorrow, and imagine looking back on your life without regrets. So that's my motto, but a little about me is I've lived in three states total. I was born in Brooklyn, New York, raised in Maplewood, New Jersey, and about six years ago moved to Bartonsville (The Poconos), Pennsylvania. I'm friendly, adventurous, and very goal oriented. My family and friends mean most to me. They've helped me through tough times and each have taught me something special that I take with me each day. I'll try almost anything at least once. I figure you only have one life might as well try everything so you have very little regrets. Well I think this should end now because I'm well over 100 words.
