It really bothers me that even though we have recycling bins on every floor in the dormitories, most people still do not recycle. The cause of this problem is primarily laziness of college students. Secondly, the bins are always at one end of the hall and while they are not inaccessible to students, their placement is inefficient because students do not sort their trash and students do not want to walk all the way down the hall to sort their trash. Ignorance is also a major cause of not recycling, students need to be educated on the rewards of recycling and they need to learn about our diminishing resources. Given these causes, students should be educated about energy and waste efficiency and there should be programs in place that reward the dorm and floor that recycles the most every week. Encouragement is key. Most students just do not care about recycling, and why should they, with partying, studying, and sleeping, there is a lot going on their everyday lives. It would be hard to make all students passionate about recycling and using resources efficiently.

How much does it cost to recycle every year? As per the Stall Stories, recycling saves the University thousands of dollars! Is it really worth it when tuition is thousands of dollars? How much can the world recycle, are there enough plants and such to recycle all of those bottles and stuff? What do you think they do with the overflow?

Maybe students know that the rewards of recycling are often outweighed by the costs of it. It is known that many recycling programs fail to break even, and often lose money. PghFf

I think that maybe, for the paper, you can do a survey of random students to really know why they don't recicle. You can also talk about what would happen if people, or in this case, students do not recicle (causes). Find out more about the recycling programs of the University. This article mentions something about how much the University pays for papers left in classrooms that are not recycled. I hope ot would help. Here is another website that can help you. CoRy
