Out of all the trails that they show on TV, of course they would only show clips and tell us tid-bits of the Saddam trial. With his entire outburst and what not, it is just a crazy court case. Like the part that they need to protect the witnesses by not having their names said and how they is a screen in front of them. In today session, reporters say that Saddam stated at the end that he would not return to the court if it were unjust.

It’s amazing how much you can miss if you don’t pick up a paper in just a few days. So much happens in the world and if you don’t stop and see, you tend to miss something. ( Yes I know that’s basically what Ferris Bueller said in Ferris Bueller’s day off)

One of four papers done, just three more to go and then the lovely three finals I have to take. Theses next two weeks are going to be so painful. There is so much to be done and it feels like so little time. This is definitely when the skills of time management will come in handy. But after that it will be all right. I cant’ believe we are alright starting to look for housing for next year. For some odd reason that freaks me out. I guess it makes me think that freshman year is ending sooner then I think it is, which in itself is a like scary, but exciting as well. It’s suppose to snow again tonight. I love freshly dropped snow it’s so pretty. Hopefully it won’t be too much though.

Ok so I was looking at the Comcast.net news site this morning, they had something up about how a statue of Mary is crying blood. Its’ happening some where outside of a church in California. Supposable people from everywhere are coming to see this statue. They said that the priest supposable wiped away the stains and they were back the next day. It is weird. If you want hear more about it go to comcast.net and then go to the news fan.

I really want it to snow. The weather keeps sayings it is going to snow and it still hasn’t. I love snow. It’s so pretty when it first falls, before it has been hit with feet and cars and all that sort of stuff. I love that I have to watch a movie for part of my psy. homework. So I will probably do that tonight with my friends because we just have to pick a movie with some that has a psychological problem in it. And that is a lot of movies. I probably end up seeing Wild Party one more time because it is the closing and my friends want to go. Plus, it doesn’t really matter because it is free.

Only one more week to go. The weekend is here. This week seemed to have gone way too fast. There is so much work to be done this week I hope it doesn’t go as fast. Because even though I want the semester to end really bad I really am not ready for finals yet. I guess I’m just a little nervous about them that’s all. I don’t know why either. It’s really not that big of a deal. Oh well. Well it’s Friday, so at least the weekend is here and you can take a slight break from work.

12/02/05

Yay, it’s final December. That is one of the most exciting things ever. December is always such a fun month and to top it all off it means that the fall semester is almost ever. I can’t wait until break. It will be nice not to worry about work of a while. Anyway, I went and saw Wild Party, the musical, tonight at the Pavilion. My friend Nathan was in it. It was a good show. I felt bad for the lead male though because he just got sick and you could kind of tell in his voice, but it was still a great show. Ever exciting and surprisingly not that long at all.

Tom Cruise is completely insane. An article on e! online talks about how he said, in public, that psychiatry is a pseudoscience. Supposable now the American Psychiatric Association is very mad and is crushing Cruise about it. Cruise even went out a bought a sonogram machine to do an ultra sound on Katie Holmes. ACR are explaining to the both of them that they could potential hurt there unborn child if they continue to do that. Hopefully Cruise will listen. You should read this article if you think that Tom Cruise is already insane and even if you didn’t because you might just think it now.

My concert went great tonight! I found an A string, which was very good. In addition, the best part was it actually stayed in tune, which is always a good thing. But yes, it was a good concert, I believe we played our best and our conductors seemed to have been very please with how we did as well. I actually somewhat sad that it’s over. I do not have orchestra again until next semester. Therefore, I will not see many of those people again until January. Oh well, at least I will see them again. The insane amount of work is still here so I must go attend to it, but just think only about 10 more days left. How exciting, right?

11/29//05

Had the dress rehearsal for my concert for tomorrow night tonight. It went all right. I believe that we are going to sound good tomorrow and that it will go very well. It was sad tonight though because tonight was the night that my A string decided it wanted to break. Then my extra A string broke as well. This means I now have to go and find an A string by tomorrow night. That should be fun. I hope I can do it, or I worked on those songs all semester for no reason.

Finally, I am back home at Penn State. I just sat in the craziest car ride. It was incredible long this time for some reason. That was an amazing amount of traffic this time. The worse was the fact that I knew that when I got back here I would have to go back into the piles of work that were still here for me to do. Even with that knowledge, I still trilled to be back in my room and to see all of my friends again. Well I better start to get back to work.

11/27/05

Black Friday has to be one of the scariest days of the year. People go crazy on that day. Not only at the stores but because they are trying to get to all of the sales they do not drive that well either. It is just not good to go out into the world that day. I mean they had all of those mall fights on the news and stuff it was crazy this year. But it is still fun to go out some times, but you definitely have to be in a good mood or it will drive you crazy.

11/25/05

Happy Thanksgiving. Today is thanksgiving. I love thanksgiving. The food that you get is always that best. I especially love the stuffing and cranberry sauce. They just taste so good. Moreover, thanksgiving always has the best stuff on TV. Like all of the excellent parades and the marathons on all the other stations that do not have either a parade or a game on. You do not really have that much of a choice. However, thanksgiving always reminds people of how your families function together. So now, we are a pretty much prepared for the rest of the holiday season. Well time to get back to cooking for tonight.

11/24/05

Thanksgiving is tomorrow but today I saw RENT. I went to the midnight showing. It was a good movie. One of those ones that when you walked out you were like wow yeah. The saddest part was some of the people that came to see it walked out because they could not take the male on male contact anymore, which I thought, was kind of sad. So many people that were at the movie got so pissed at those people. The only thing I did not like about that night was the fact that when I walked out of the theater I realized that I know had to drive home in the snow. I hate driving in the snow and 2 o’clock in the morning.

Today I was reading about this new aquarium and thought it was interesting. Supposable they have made an aquarium where you can walk into the place and the fish are all around you. It looks so amazing. It is the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta and it looks marvelous. Supposable most of the fish that are in the tank come from aquaculture, also known as fish farms so they did not take any fish from they environments which is nice. If you want to know more about it here’s the article.

11/21/05

Today some of my friends had a Thanksgiving day feast for some of there closet friends here. It was a lot of fun to come together with about 40 people and have thanksgiving with your friends. I’m so use to having it with my family, which is very small, it was nice to have thanksgiving with my friends. It was also a blast to have so many people coming together to eat. The food was amazing, or it could have just seemed amazing because I’m so use to dining hall food now.

It was also my mother’s birthday today. My sister thought it would be a good idea to do a 3-way call to her to wish her a happy birthday. The idea was good, but then when it actually happened it was crazy. I forget how hard it was to talk to my whole family all at once. Most of what was sad probably did not even make any sense once so ever. At least we now know never to do that again.

11/20/05

I’ve learned that mono is the most annoying disease ever. I was planning on getting so much work done today because I had so much time. So I was planning to wake up at ten and get started. Well I did not wake up till 12:30 then I got nothing done because I was still so tired. I actually took a nap from 3 to 6. and then another one from 8-10 it was so pathetic I got absolutely nothing done. The worst of it all is all that sleep did not even really make me feel all that better.

11/19/05

I do not have that much to say tonight. I found out today why I have been so tired and sick feeling lately. It turns out that I have mono. O joy. That is just something everyone always wants to here a few weeks before finals and right before a break. I think my parents are more worried about it then I am. That is probably because they just do not know as much about it as I do. O well, what are you going to do? They are looking up a the information they can find online. It is slightly amusing to you. But yeah, I figure well at least I have a reason now and I know why I’ve been having so much trouble staying awake, its not just because I’m just tired and cannot catch up on sleep or something. I have a perfectly good explanation. Well I’m going to go take a nap and work on the loads of work that I still have.

11/18/05

Everyone I know is soo excited today. Why might you ask? Well that would be because tonight the new Harry Potter film comes out tonight at 12 o’clock. After all of their shows are down, we are pilling into the cars and headed off to the theaters. It should be a fun time.

But anyway, tonight I went to a Bio review session like I usually do before an exam. It was probably the most helpful review session I’ve been to yet. To bad I found which TA is actually good at them on the last exam. At least I know now that I should go to his review for the final. I kind of wish I still knew about him before now. Before three weeks until the semester ends. But you deal with what you got, right? Oh well.

Thanks for the info. on Afghan Women. Get some rest and eat some soup. TheKemBlog

Today was such a long day. Once again, I am sick. I think this one is from all the stress of work. I hate being sick. Yes, I know no one likes being sick, but I am not use to it. I have never been this sick so many times since seventh grade. It is crazy. I guess though after this year is done next year will not be as bad just because I will be use to most of the colds that you get at college. Supposable freshman is the worst sick year of college because of the start of close living. It is just so annoying because you get sick because you are stressed but then you can’t really focus to do your work so you get more stressed which just makes you more sick it is an evil cycle and pretty much never ending too. But eventually we will all get use to this weird cold and just learn to work while being ill. Well I’m going to get work done while I still feel good enough to.

I cannot believe that those two people made it all the way to Indiana. I mean you would think that the police would do a better than that. Or even if they didn’t catch them, the police could have been a little better at spotting them. I mean before Indiana the last place they were spotted was around here, which is very scary to think about. I mean you know that bad things happen in the world but you tend to forget about them until they come close to where you are. I feel so bad for the people involved in the neighbor with that situation that cannot be easy to deal with.

If you have not noticed I have been paying more attention to the news. I started to feel like I knew of nothing outside of Penn State. So I am starting to realized what is going on in the world surrounding Penn State other then the war and the hurricanes. It’s nice to know what is happening. I hate the feeling of when people are talking and you have no idea because you just didn’t hear about it. It is so aggravating. Oh well, it’s getting better now.

Is Afghan Women still playing? Please post answer to TheKemBlog. Thanks!

Last Thursday they finally named then newborn giant panda at the San Diego Zoo, as CNN.com states. After 100 days after the birth of the panda, they have decided to name it Su Lin. The zoo waited 100 days past its birth to keep with Chinese’s tradition. The name, Su Lin, in Chinese means “a little bit of something very cute”. Which I think is perfect for this creature because it is so adorable looking. Supposable the names for this panda where polled on for the Internet and this name won with 44% of the votes. In addition, this particle name for a panda has not been use since the first panda brought to America in 1936. I think it is great that the San Diego Zoo respects the Chinese owners of the panda and it is parents to wait in the traditional way to name the panda. It was the right thing to do. If you want the rest of the article that talks about the panda, Su Lin go here.

Today my sister sent me an article from eonline about John Cleese and Lemurs. The article talks all about how Cleese has always shown as interest in Lemurs and that he has been in films and such with them. It states that Cleese is a Lemur fanatic. They found a new species of lemurs and because of Cleese love and dedications to the creature. They explain that he is perfect for naming the things after because of Cleese’s long legs and the fact that both Cleese and the creature like to do weird jumping. Then they start to go in and talk about other celebrities such as Charlie Chaplin and the fly and Metallica and the wasp. It is a very interesting article and I suggest you read it. Cleese’s Lemur Love Reward.

11/13/05

I was watching the news today and they were talking about France. I thought it was funny that they way that they are trying to stop the riots is to prohibit any large group meetings. Wouldn’t that just make more riots break out? They could now riot on the fact that they will not even they them met. I really do not think that this plan of action will work and if it does then good for France, they figured out a way. Nevertheless, there must be a better plan out there other then just to ban large group interactions.

On the other hand, they were also talking about how the gas prices are going down again. That’s very good news. They are saying that the country average now is about $2.40, which is much better, and then it was at around $3.05 or something like right after the hurricanes happened. It good to know that when we all have to go home that it wont cost too much money because it won’t be so much gas pricing into the account of the total.

Tonight I went to the opening of Afghan Women. That was an excellent play. It is very deep and really opens your eyes about things. The actors just did a great job of truly bringing across what I believe the director really wanted out of them. The message of term oral and the depending on whose eye is looking at a person depends on whether or not that person is perceived as the villain or the hero. It really shows what it is like and how hard it is there. True there is so comic relief, but for this type of topic I belief that the comic relief is probably a good idea so that it’s not too hard on your audience. One of the greatest parts was that fact that the man that wrote Afghan Women was actually there at the premiere and announced that it will soon be going to New York in a couple of months, which is very exciting. I suggest to go see Afghan Women if you have time this week, it really is an excellent play.

11/11/05

Thursday evening, that means it is almost the weekend. I am so excited it should be fun. Plus, this week has seemed to really drag on. Well tonight, I went to Outlaws, my friend Dave with directing the show. He did a excellent job directing too with what script he was given. It was not the best script but I believe that Dave brought out the best that he could with what he had.

Not much has been going on so I do not have a lot to write about. It’s been a busy work time. That is about it. In addition, the worst of it all is the fact that the work has not stopped yet. It just keeps going and going. It like the energizer bunny from hell. No wonder why people at college get sick so easily their never have enough time to just sleep. It’s really not a good thing at all.

11/10/05

Scheduling is the most annoying thing every and I can’t even schedule yet. Everything fills up so quickly. It feels like there won’t even be any classes that I need left by the time I finally do get to register. What an annoying process. But the angry from that is being put aside for now because it’s almost Thanksgiving. What a great holiday. I love all the different foods made in the fall and Thanksgiving just brings them all together. Plus you get to see all the people you haven’t seen in awhile. It is be a nice freshing break from college. Well at least dorm life and classes, not so much the work because of how close it is to the end of the semester. It’s only a month left until finals. I can’t tell if I’m excited about that or not I mean we will have a nice break but finals is going to be so stressful.

I was watching the new the other day. I realized that it’s really pointless almost. They never talk about anything different its just Iraq or storms and now France and they just go back and forth about the three. I mean there has to be something else going on in the world other then others three things. If not, then this world is very depressing.

11/09/05

Time is dwelling down. Everything’s due date is almost here. I can almost start scheduling next semester soon. The last weeks of the first semester of college are almost complete. It seems to get gone so much faster than one had anticipated. I guess it’s because so much but at the same time so little has happened in these past few months.

I had one of my last orchestra rehearsals tonight. Only two more to go until the concert. One normal rehearsal and one dress rehearsal, hopefully we will be able to get it all together and make it sound great. It is a non-music major orchestra so a lot of people don’t work as hard, mainly because we don’t have the time to do so, but it’s still fun and exciting and it will be a good concert.

11/08/05

Work is crazy. I cannot wait until the rush of this work wave is over and it is thanksgiving break. Although I realized that thanksgiving break will not really be that much of a break because there will still be work to do and it is really close to the end of the semester. So really, it is more as if I cannot wait until winter break when it all just stops for 3 weeks. When that day comes it will be the greatest thing ever. I am tired of the two papers and exams almost ever week. It insane but I am still holding hard. I do not intend to fall. I figure it is only a few more weeks longer until it is over and then I can relax. In addition, if I keep my mind on that everything will be fine and I will get through it. Now it is starting to get sad because the last of the leaves are falling meaning fall is almost over and winter will begin soon. Which I hear it has supposed to be a bad winter. Oh well, nothing we can do about that. Well I better get back to the mounds of work that is piling up.

Here's the source for the class to read http://www.brainconnection.com/topics/?main=fa/music-education

I made a comment on TheChulBlog on sunday November 6 2005 at 1:34pm

and a comment on VerDancho on sunday November 6 2005 at 9:08pm

Proposal blog 2

From going with what I had before about finding out the inter-workings of the brain and music stimulation there are just a few things that I would like to add. First, a reason that is acceptable for wanting to know this information would be to stop the depletion of the arts in elementary learning. All because of the “No Child Left Behind” law school are focusing more on normal subjects and moving away from extra curricular activities. Secondly, if the first thing holds true and music is taken out of the schools, you have a problem with children slowly become less and less cultured in society. Therefore looking into the argument of where music affects the metal capabilities of people will determine if take arts out of schools is really a bad idea.

11/4/05

Proposal blog 1

The question people tend to wonder is whether music really does affect people mental capabilities. The fact of the matter is some people believe that if they have children listen to classical/ orchestrated music whilst they sleep their brain will be stimulated and that children will do better in its academics. If a person listening to the music or plays/sings it themselves, does it enhance a part of the brain that helps with other parts of the learning process? If this question was to be answered people would have a better understanding of how the brain worked and also be able to help out children with learning problems and understand why so many students it the music department are able to be in the honors courses. This information would help the parents and teachers across the nation. Scientists would be able to probably bring more understanding to the brain information that we already have and we could potentials help children to learn better.

Proposal Narrative

After I got out of orchestra the other week, I started to think, music I love music. I love to play music after orchestra I always feel so much better it just takes the stress away. I realize that I could definitely write a ten-page paper about music. However, what. Then I was reminded about a day in high school. One day I was just looking around the room during one of my A.P. classes and realized that most of the people in the class where once or are still associated with the music department. I thought that that was odd. I never noticed it before and then one day it was like wow, there really is mostly all music people in this room. The thing that was more odd I that fact that when I went to my other classes the ones that were A.P. had the same thing where they were mostly music students, whereas the normal level courses barely had any. Ever since then I have been wondering about whether playing or being involved in music helps stimulate a certain part of your brain that puts those people in the high level course especial the math and science ones.

Today Tuesday November 1 was an interesting day. None of it really made that much sense. It was just one series of randomness right after another. There was no telling what was going to happen next. It seemed like such a normal day, but then at the same time it wasn’t. Such, if I told you the events of today, you would probably say well that does not seem that weird, but some how they are. I got my tickets for the next to theater shows that my friends are in. I’ve determined that being a friend of theater majors gets very expensive just because you tend to have to go to a lot of shows that they are in and not all of them are free. Plus the fact that I’m not a theater major I do not get the discount of the shows therefore I have to pay the full student price. Its ok though because they will make up for it by going to my Orchestra concert later this month. It’s a little nerve racking because we only have three more rehearsals left until the concert. The rain today was kind of annoying since I didn’t know it was going to rain and then I walk out of the store and it’s pouring. That was no fun at all, especially since I was wearing flip flops. The weather at state college is so random feeling some times. Oh well, I guess I’ll learn to live with it.

11/1/05

Halloween weekend. Homecoming weekend. What a fun time. I almost forgot today that Halloween has not even happened yet. So much has happened this weekend. Halloween is always so much fun because people dress in the most ridiculous ways ever. Sometimes its looks like that’s how they actually want to dress like that all the time but they know they can’t. I love the time of Halloween because once Halloween states it like down hill from there because then Thanksgiving is only about a month away and then Christmas the next month and before you know it, it’s next year. It’s such an exciting time of the year. You just have to love it.

10/30/05

The Hurricanes this season has not only been powerful but plentiful. There have been so many hurricanes that they have ran out of names. They are starting to use the Greek alphabet, because of the fact that there just are not any names left. The news seems to be only hurricanes and Iraq now and it’s very depressing to watch. First they will talk about all of the victims that are suffering from the hurricanes and then they will go over to how there has 2,000 soldiers killed in the Iraq war. It makes it seem like everything in the world is in terminally when it’s really not. Now as they have been for a while now, people are on the back of John Stewart because he is the only new that most people of college age really watch and that’s where they get most of their new from and he just makes fun of it. However, if he did not joke around about it then most people would probably stop watching because they watch because they want the news but not so depressingly.

10/27/05

Snow?? Halloween hasn’t even happened yet. I am just amazed. It never snows this early. I did not even think it was cold enough yet to let it snow. I guess I was proven wrong. I can understand flurries at this time of year but thick wet snow. Yeah, that just does not make any sense. It is suppose to be a terrible winter, with many storms. I guess we will just have to wait a see. All that can be sad is that the snow made today a very unusually day.

10/25/05

In the article about musicians and the hurricane victims, it has an arguement at the begining stating that "New Orleans is getting a double dose of relief. This is an evulative arguement by stating that they are getting a lot of good help going towards them. Charlie Amter, the writer, says that the Hurricane Relief: Come together Now album is an extra little bonus for relief for the victims. The reasons they say that it's a double dose is because this cd's has to discs to it. All of the money that the cd earns will go to the relief fund for the hurricanes. So by having A-list musicians put a cd together for they was the double dose of relief. People could argue that this is not a double dose of relief because they are still just giving them money, but most people would come back at that comment with,"No they are also giving they gift of music."

The terminology that the dictionary uses for plagiarism is, "to copy someone else's piece of writing and state that you wrote it, but I believe there is a little more to it. If you plagiarize that means that you have not made truly yours. You just rearrange some words, or took words out. You do not always have to start from your own idea to not be plagiarizing, but you do have to start with your own words. Not saying that quoting is plagiarism because it's not, but you are giving credit to the person that stated it first, but if you start with someone else's work and rearrange things and do not line between using a person idea and plagiaring their work and if you are even in doubt if your are plagiarizing or not i suggest that you just assume you are and change it. Basically what plagiarism is, is when you take another's idea arrange something, add and substract other things and call it your own.

10/22/05

2nd evaluative arguement:

In the article, “Famous Error Stamps Set Record” the authors opening statement explains that the upside down airmail stamp is the most famous postage stamp. The many reason for it being so famous is that little kids that have just started to collect stamps even know about it. Another reason would be that it is very rare now and there are only about 90 of them left which makes them very special. The specialty of the stamp makes them more known. The fact that someone just brought the last sheet of these stamps for 2.97 million dollars shows the worth of the stamp and generally, if it costs more and less of it, it is more well known. A counter-argument that should be brought is that if you don’t know stamps that well or don’t really care about them you wouldn’t really know it, you would probably know the stamps that we use in everyday life now more so then the rare airmail ones.

Here is the cluster discussion about the Final projects so far…

holycow5614: hey

chulka14: hey!

holycow5614: whats up

chulka14: oh not much- eating

holycow5614: fun stuff

holycow5614: so do you wanna cluster thing now?

chulka14: haha ok

chulka14: so we just talk about what we're interested in?

holycow5614: what we would want to write our final projects on how we would get people interested and what we would want to accomplish

chulka14: hmmmm lets seee

holycow5614: so what are you writing about

chulka14: i really have no clue at all yet

chulka14: but i'm interested in stuff like art and music.....

holycow5614: yeah me too

holycow5614: i was kind of thinking about music but theres' so much there

chulka14: yea and i don't know what kind of argument or persuasion i should talk about

holycow5614: yeah i mean you could talk about how different types of music affect people's personality

chulka14: yea that would be cool

chulka14: maybe i could talk about......

chulka14: the importance of art and creative expression

chulka14: in people's lives

holycow5614: yeah something like that

chulka14: maybe i could talk about the importance of art in childhood development

chulka14: hmmmm

holycow5614: yeah that works I’ll probably end up doing something with nursing or like how listening to music before you go to sleep helps children expand their minds

chulka14: yea that sounds like a good idea

chulka14: well that seems like a good cluster meeting

chulka14: we got some potential ideas out

holycow5614: yeah sounds good

chulka14: ok talk to ya later!

chulka14: bye!

evaluative arguement:

The author of this article states, “Cameron Crowe’s half-dozen flicks are heartfelt and quirky enough to spark impassioned debate.” This article was based upon of that statement. The author backs up his debate by exclaiming that the choice that a person makes on what their favorite Cameron Crowe movie is explains a little bit about themselves. Then he goes on explaining this by presenting us with examples of Orlando Blooms favorite, Kristin Dunst favorite and a few others. The specific people that he chooses were to help him demonstrates his first point. They help but what they statements about their favorite Crowe movie is puts out there that the films are heartfelt and can spark impassioned debate. One counter-argument that could be brought up with this one is the fact that they could just being having a debate about the movies because people know the name Cameron Crowe and maybe not so much the movies that he has done.

The Remix:

Pierre-Paul Grasse brought Stigmergy into focus in 1959. By studying the works of a constructions of a termite nest he was able to explain what stigmergy is, which is the way that insect communicate to each other. The terminology of stigmergy makes one believe that all insects communicate in this special way so that they are able to work together as a colony. By using termite, nesting Grasse was able to display this. This concept is true for all insects even though the research was basically only on termites, it still holds true. It’s just the fact that it’s the flow of the society of insects together.

Many people went home this weekend, which means that State College is extremely quiet. It is somewhat nice. It’s very relaxing. I would have gone home but it seemed kind of pointless. My parents went up to Boston this weekend to visit my sister at Boston University. In addition, many of my friends do not have break until next weekend so I would be going home to nothing except for maybe my dog. It is alright though because I will be going home next weekend and it will be so much fun. I realized though that now that all my friend here at Penn State are gone that I have a lot of free time on my hands. I am so happy with it though. It is great to have nothing to do every once in a while. Anyway, I saw A History of Violence yesterday. I was probably one of the worst movies I saw. It was one of those movies that when you walk out of it you wish you had those two hours back. It’s one of those movies that you just have to laugh at and make fun of. So I just wanted to let you know that you should never see that movie.

From the TheRoxySpot:

For my second casusal argument I found an article about children and day care. It says that child care impacts kids' achievement. More specifically it says that children who go to informal child care do not reach their full academic potential. According to the article, children who go to informal child care scored 3.5% lower on achievement tests. The article says that this is because workers at child care centers may be better trained than relatives or other informal child care providers. Also, formal child care environments may provide more organization and discipline, more educational activity and more stimulation for the kids as they interact with other kids. Some counter arguments for this claim could be that it's a coincidence the children in informal child care do not do as well as those in formal child care. Also, it's an assumption that informal child care is less organized, stimulating, and does not have trained care providers like formal child. The type of home the children live in, their household income, and other outside factors could also lead to lower test scores.

Claim: child care impacts kids' achievements, especial childern that go to an informal child care, they will not reach their full potential.

Reasons: At places with formal child care they are people there with more experience and the is a better enviroment for learning. Plus, childern in an informal setting will not interact with child it's only age generally in the same way they would if in a formal setting. This would affect the way a child learns and develops by not having that same contact and understand of how to act in certain places.

Counter-arguements: One thing that the blog does bring up is the household enivorment. If a child grows up with some of the same advantages as another that could affect it's achievements in education. Another thing is if the household just does not have enough money to send the child to a formal child care. Child care would then be a reason on to the claim instead of the claim itself.

From the ChulBlog:

Causal Argument Critique #1

So i decided to comment on this causal argument:

In the article What causes obesity? many factors are brought for that are believed and proven to cause obesity. Some causes mentioned include genes, fatty foods, bad lifestyle, metabolic rate and psychology. They have touched on many factors but I believe that they have left one out. I think they left out the impact of the environment in which they live. If their surroundings send them the signal that being fat is okay, then they will not try as hard to correct their problem. However, someone in a society where being obese is frowned upon will try much harder to obtain a healthy weight.

It seems right to believe that if you live in a society where obesity is frowned upon people would strive much harder to have a healthy life style, but i actually don't think that's true. Here in America, it's all the rage to be skinny and toned, and being "fat" is very frowned upon. But even so, we're still one of the "fattest" countries in the world. I believe obesity is caused more by factors pointed out in the article, like bad lifestyle (not eating right, not getting enough exercise) and genetic factors.

Claim: genes, fatty foods, bad lifestyle, metabolic rate, and psychology cause obesity.

Reasons: obesity could run in the family and the more fatty, unhealth food you eat the more work it is for your body to get rid of it, although that would have to coincide with lack of excerise. Having a poor metabolic rate affects as well because your body will not be able to break apart the fats that you put into it.

Counter-arguements: Not getting enough excerise. That is defintly a reason because if you don't excerise it slows down your matabolism and when you eat poorly you will not be able to burn off an equal amount to how much calories you use in a day.

In an article by Jan Sadaqat, there is a causal argument that exclaims that “Heavy rain and hail forced the cancellation of some relief flights to earthquake-stricken regions Tuesday and survivors scuffled over the badly needed food.” The claim is that because of the heavy rain and the hailstorm earthquake survivors are fighting for what food is left. They said this because the people are hungry and that they cant’ get the food to them, people are getting angry. They are stating this because it will hopefully bring sore fully feelings to the American public to help them get the food and supplies to the people. In addition, it will bring to the public eye that fact that people are suffering in other places. There audience is the public of American to show people the scenes of the world. Another cause of why the survivors scuffled over the badly needed food because of the earthquake and not because of the rain and hail. Also, it was not the rains and hail that caused no food to be there.

In Comcast’s news, it states that, Angela Merkel’s “good and fair” deal will make her German’s first female chancellor. Basically what the “deal stated was that she would give most of the new Cabinet seats to Schroeder’s Social democrats, evening the job of foreign minister. By doing this, she says it will keep good relations with the United States. The reason this article states that she will get the chancellor position is that fact that there was no alternative to the reform course for Germany. They are making this argument because it has never happened before. Germany has never had a female run the government, so therefore people some where are probably not to pleased with the out of this. The audience being addressed is the world population. Basically, it is anyone who reads the newspaper. In this article another thing that they could say that cause Angela Merkel’s way to becoming the first female chancellor is all the hard work she has put into her job and life in the past years. Plus, all of her dedication in her career would seems like it would help in the decision in making her chancellor.

Today Thursday October 5, 2005 I saw for the first time, the Penn State Philharmonic Orchestra play. It was the most amazing experience ever. It was one of the concerts that you came out of it you just felt so energized but relaxed and peaceful all at the same time. When they started playing you just heard how amazing and dedicated they all were to their parts. The people that did solos were phenomenal. I suggest that you all go see they next concert. I do not know exactly when it is, but if it was as good as tonight, you will absolutely love it, unless you really hate orchestra music.

It has been a very odd day. A quiet a long one at that. One would think that I would be able to explain it to you right now, but there are no words. There is nothing. I’m sitting here wondering what to write, what to say and there is nothing. I could talk about how my orchestra class went or how I thought I did on my psychology exam, but the fact of the matter is you probably would not want to read about that. I could say “hey, are ya stoked about the football game this Saturday, but no. This is all I can come up with, but why. I do not understand. How can it be this hard? The only thing that was some what funny today was my mother sent my a picture of her when she was in college and my friends here laughed, as did I, at the fact that I pretty much look exactly like her only in this day in age style. It was really strange, just like today.

10/4/05

This weekend was fun. Nothing special happened or anything but, it was good nonetheless. I have a psychology test tomorrow. I hope that I do well on it, especially since we only get two tests and a final in that class. Grading is so funny how it works sometimes. As if three tests really show how well you know everything. Oh well, you have to do what you have to do. Therefore, that is what I will be doing today (getting ready for that test). Then I guess I will find something fun to do later tonight so I don’t feel like I wasted a day or just work. That would not be good at all. I think that if all you do in one day is work then you will slow start to go insane. Well I better be getting back to my psy. notes.

10/02/05

So, it’s Friday finally. It is going to be an amazing weekend. I just got back from helping out a nursing home call Brookline. It was a lot of fun. Some elderly people can be so fascinating to listen to. They have lived through so much. But now I’m just waiting until my friends get back from this thing for women’s studies and then off to the movies. That should be fun. So I figured why I was waiting I would write in my blog. This week’s weather, I must say, was slightly random. One day it was so blue and beautiful and then the next is dark and depressing. It could drive a person insane, but at least it is starting to feel like fall. I can’t wait until the trees start to really change colors. They are so pretty when that happens. Well I better be going, got a long fun filled night ahead of me.

The enthymeme that I found was “I’m just a poor boy, I need no sympathy” from the song Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. This is stating that if you are a boy that is poor always get sympathy. He is asking for no sympathy therefore he is a poor boy. The reasons that this enthymeme does not work are for one you are not quite sure whether they are getting sympathy because he is a boy or that he is poor or both. Secondly, why does the person assume that all poor boys get sympathy from others? Some other people may not care about the poor boys.

How to get into your room

1. Go to door that lets you in from the outside into your building.

2. Make sure there is a black card slide box

3. Then get out your Penn State ID

4. Slide your card through slit in card box, making sure that the black line on the back of the card is the part that goes through the machine.

5. Once door is unlocked, open the door

6. Walk into the building

7. Walk to the door that lets you into your room

8. Take out dorm room door key

9. Put the key into the key lock, making sure that the ridged end is facing up

10. Turn key to the left in a complete circle.

11. Take key out of door.

12. Turn the door knob and push door in

Today was literal the grosses, worst day ever. First, the weather, what was going on with that? That storm was depressing go through and to see. Every time you looked out the window it was as if as dark shadow came over happy valley. The wetness went down to your bones practical. The mythology exam did not help in this “excellent, ecstatic” day. It was my own fault that I probably did not do well on it, but I feel that if the weather was better I would have been enthusiastic to take it. I believe that the weather really does affect a person personality. So hopefully it will get sunny soon so people will be happy again.

9/26/05 8:30p

My parents came to visit me. We had amusing time. I took them around campus and showed them some stuff. I did not really know where to take them, but we had fun nonetheless. They seemed happy to see me. I felt a little heartbroken for them because I do not think I was as sad to be away from them as they were. Though you would think, they are use to it because my old sister has already left. By the time it was time for them to leave, I believe they realized how much I have grown just from being without them for a month. My mother was adorable when they were leaving though; she was almost acting as if she would never see me again. She misses having someone in the house with her all the time. Anyway, seeing them made me feel more enthused about life again. I guess I did not notice that I was homesick. My parents were sharing with me all the people that missed me back home. It was slightly depressing. Everything is ok now though. Well since I have a mythology test tomorrow and have not study because of my parents I better be going.

It’s finally Friday. Oh, that is so grand. I wanted this week to be over so bad. It just seemed like it was going forever. I think it was because I had the “freshman” cold early this week. The weekend should be nice though. And it seems to be starting to get a little cooler out. Yay. That means fall is coming. I think I like the change of seasons more then an actual season. It’s just so different, how they change from summer to fall and fall to winter and winter to spring and spring to summer. Each change kind of has it’s own special thing and that’s what I love about it. Well I’m off to dinner and then finding something to do tonight.

9/23/05 6:26p

I’ve decided that I think Thursdays are my best day. I’m done classes by 12 and then I have the rest of the day to myself. It’s awesome. So my parents are coming up on sat. to visit that should be fun. I’ve seen them in a while it will be nice. Nothing really amazing happened today I just had classes. Although in one of my classes today I learned that if you don’t have a lot of salt or electrolytes in your system and you start to drink and lot of water and you drink too much water, your blood cells or even your nerve cells can burst and you can go into a comma and possible even die. I just thought that was interesting. It’s because in a water solution your cells are hypo tonic was they will bring water into the cell and if you bring to much in that it will burst. Well I better get back to the paper.

9/22/05 7:05p

Today is been a pretty good day. I got my exam over with. It seemed to go all right. It wasn’t as frightening as I thought I would have been. It was pretty straightforward. Anyway I guess I can start study for my next exam, which is on Monday, for mythology. The class is pretty interesting. We just had to read a story on the trial of tears from the view of a Native American. It had to be one of the most depressing things I have read in awhile. The unit we are on is Native American mythology so that’s why we were reading it. But as I was reading I realized that the person that wrote this short story was an example of a “good” writer. He kept his read intrigued without even seeming like he was trying. He was just sharing his story, but because of the detail he put into certain parts of it, it just made you not want to stop reading, but continue to find out what had happened in the end. It was one of those stories that after you read it you’re in a deep, peaceful but a little depression state. It just blows your mind on how this could have actually happened.

9/21/05 1:54p

So today I had orchestra again. It was so much fun. It really relieves some of the stress I’ve been having over the work I have. But it’s ok it’s starting to go down again. And I thinking I’ve got a system to even out the load. So tomorrow I have my first ever college exam. This should be interesting. It is in biology: Physiology. I think I’m ready for it. I don’t really know. It’s so soon it the course. But then again I keep forgetting that we don’t have these classes for the whole year. The past few days I finally got the evil cold that has been going around. It was the worst thing ever. You just don’t want to do anything at all. But it’s ok, it is starting to go away now. Well since this is a boring blog I’m going to stop. Till next time.

9/20/05 10:17p

So I just got back for swing dancing. That was so much fun. I have never done it before and the people there were so nice. They would stop what they were doing to teach the new people how to do a few steps it was so much fun. By the end of the night I knew a little bit of how to swing dance. Anyway it’s almost Friday. Yay! The first full week is almost over. This has been such a long week or at least it seems like it. Well I better get back to biology, my first exam in that is on wed. Blah, exams are stupid. Well until next time.

9/15/05 11:30p

So I have been sitting here trying to think of something to do for my final project. I haven’t really come up with anything. I’m thinking that I would like to do it on something about music or the arts because I love the arts but I’m just quite sure what I would want to argue about in them. I was also thinking about medicine or something in that field because that is the field I am in. But I’m not really sure.

I went to that open-house library thing today. It was really weird. You just walked into rooms and had people punch holes into the sheet that they give you on the way in. I don’t think it really helped me find my way around that library at all. Oh well, I’ll just use that map they gave up to get around it. I’m starting to notice a wave like motion in my work. In all my classes it will go up and down on how much work I get. And it seems that all the waves are going together. So whenever I have a lot of work for one class I have a lot of work for all the others. It’s a little creepy how it works out like that. But there’s nothing I can really do about that.

What do you think causes the wave phenomenon? As you may guess, things will get quite busy at the end of the semester. What survival strategies can you come up with? TheKemBlog

So today I had my first session of Sinfonietta Orchestra. It is an orchestra made for non-music majors. Two graduated students conducted it. One of which did not speak English very well. But anyway it was slightly odd because I am use to playing in an orchestra of about 120 people and in this one there is barely 40. So it was a change of perception. We just ran through a few pieces just to see where the level of the orchestra was. It was kind of sad at times on how terrible we sounded but we just kept pushing through the music. I’m so pleased to be in an orchestra again. They are always so much fun and so relaxing it a class that you can just be yourself and not have to really worry about anything in. We have one concert, at least that I know of so far. Hopefully we will be better by then. I’m so excited for this class.

I do not believe that debate and dialogue differ, but rather debate is a type of dialogue. If you look at it debate has all of the fundamentals of dialogue in it, but it takes those fundamentals to the extreme. You are addressing others about your point but you are also addressing the other debater. A good debater will listen to what the opponent has to say so that they can give you information to bring out your side of the argument. With the generosity aspect, you as a debater need to have an open mind to the other person. If you are narrow-minded than your side cannot be expanded because generally you won’t understand fully the other side to attack it. Dialogue and debate do not really differ because debate is a type of dialogue. The only way is if you put it the other way, where dialogue doesn’t have to be a debate. Take a conversation for an example; it is not really a debate but it does have the elements of addressing another, listening to them, and being generous to what they are saying. So I say the relationship to debate and dialogue is like the relationship of a square and a rectangle. In that a square can be a rectangle but a rectangle is not always a square. Then the same concept goes for debate and dialogue.

Yesterday a friend of mine from home came to visit. It was exhilarating. She goes to Lock Haven so we are not that far away from each other. It was nice to finely talk to someone in person again that you didn’t have to explain anything to before telling a story because we grew up together. She had never been to Penn State before so of course I took her to the creamery. Which of course, was a great time then we just hung around campus and took pictures. My friends and I have always loved taking pictures. It is always pure entertainment. After a while she went back to Lock Haven and I went off to dinner with the people around here.

Dinner was delicious as normal. I mean it is west’s food. Then my new friends and me walk around that night trying to think of something to do. Finally we ended up watching a movie and playing cards. The weird thing about it though was that we were all content with just doing that. We were having fun just hanging out, like we did back home with our other friends. That’s when it hit us. We weren’t just hanging out because we didn’t know anyone else but because we were friends and it’s a great feeling to know that among the 40,000 people that go to the school we have a group of people that we can talk to.

Anyway, I need to go shopping for food. I’ve realized sitting in the room trying to do work when there’s nothing really to munch on is no good. No good at all. You need something to occupy yourself when sitting reading and reading and reading nonsense. It just makes the time go by faster. Which in a way could be good or bad, depending on how much you actually get down. Well speaking about reading nonsense I should get back to it.

09/11/05 3:43p

I found out today that one of my friends from back home got into his college’s opera (well one of the college’s operas). It was so exciting. They rarely ever let freshman into the plays and things like that. And not only did he get in but he got the lead role. I’m so happy for him. It’s every exciting. And even though I’ve never heard of this opera and most people I’ve talked to haven’t heard of it before I’m sure it will be great.

Today at waring commons they had one of the blood drives. Yes I did go and gave blood. That was different. Don’t know how I feel about it. Like it’s cool that I’m helping out around 3-5 people depending on the people. But I did not like how I felt sick for a good hour or so afterwards. Plus, the lady that checked my blood for iron bruised my finger. I’m starting to think that where the needle went may be bruised too. I’ll have to wait and see when I wake up.

I’m still amazed how fast the weeks go here. Like tomorrow is Friday. It could just be the fact that we have been starting on Tuesday maybe it will feel more like a week once we start on a Monday. My parents reminded me today that parent week is in about two weeks. I can’t believe that it’s here already. I realized today that my old high school just started school. They haven’t even been in school for 3 days yet. 3 days when we have been doing this for about two weeks. But college classes are ten times better then high school, I don’t really know why they just kind of are. Well nothing really happened today so I don’t really have anything to say…

09/08/05 11:40p

Labor Day here was completely different. At home I use to have all these people come over, and we would have a barbeque. That’s not exactly what I did this year, but that’s all right. My new friends and me found things to do around here. (I made it sound like it’s hard to do that) It’s definitely not that hard. Sadly for a good portion of the day my roommate and I sat in our room hard at work, because we have always hated getting behind in things. At the end of the day, we made the decision that it was time to do something rather silly and fun. So we ended up seeing a movie. We walked down to cinema 5 and saw The 40 Year Old Virgin. That had to be one of the most entertaining movies. I’ve seen in awhile. It’s just crazy. When thinking back on it, I don’t even remember that much of the movie except for random lines.

So once again my roommate and I went through another weekend with out buying a rug… we say everyday that we need one, but then by the time we have a chance to go out and get one we are both to lazy to go. We need to work on that. It’s so weird there really has only been two weekends. It feels like we have been here for so much longer. Did you realize that we still haven’t had our Monday schedule yet? I can’t believe it. Time feel like it moves so oddly here. I mean the hour in the day or even the day itself never actually feels what it really is. It just blows me mind…. So I actually got mail yesterday. I was every exciting all the things that I forgot in Philly came. Such as my camera battery charger so now I can take pictures again. (Which is always fun) the best type of pictures are the ones that look like that would make no sense to those who just look at them, but then when you really look at them you see that it’s something more, general so much more. It’s like having an entire story in such a small combination of colors. Well I will leave to with this randomly filled blog.

All right so my friend from home just told me this freaky story, so I figured I would share it with you. First of all, you need some background information to understand it. First off one year ago from Friday, September 2 my priest from my church back at home past away. This past year at the church we put windows in the bell tower of our church in memory of him. Also, every Friday my church has a service. Ok so here it goes…

So Friday night after the service a man from the church was starting to lock up. He locked the one door and then turned around to go to the other when all of a sudden he saw a cat staring at the window. Not thinking anything of it, other then the fact that there was a cat in the church, he ran after the cat to try and catch it and get it out. But of course he couldn’t catch the cat. So he called to out to his wife to come back into the church and help him. As she came in, she made complete halt when she saw the cat. It looked exactly like the priest’s cat, but it couldn’t have been (that cat had died when the priest was still alive). So they both started chasing after this cat. The cat ran up towards the altar. The people were right behind it. Then it went down the steps and out the door. When the people got outside the saw no trace of the cat. It had just disappeared.

Now I don’t know but I just thought that was a freaky thing. Maybe it is just because I knew the person but still I figured I would share it.

Today had to be the most beautiful day since I got here. It was extremely relaxing and just put everyone in a better mood. I’ve started to notice things like that lately. Whenever the weather is gray and depressing and has a sorrowful tone to it. Like when it was raining the other day, you could just see the sad, depressed looks on almost ever person you walked past on the street. But when you look at them today, they were all laughing and having a good time. It’s just fascinating that the weather and the mood of the world around us affect how we act towards the world that day.

I was reading the paper today and I saw how insane the gas prices have become. It seems to be like history is going to repeat itself. Just like in the seventy’s when people were only allowed to get gas on certain days. Hopefully it won’t get that far this time, but it seems to be getting worst and worst by the day. It makes me glad that I’m at Penn State not able to use my car, so that I do not have to waste so much money on gas. Well hopefully it will soon turn around and come back down again soon. Well until next time…

Hello everyone. I figured I would start out by saying that I don't really know why I picked my handle as that. It has been a name I've been using for a long time. It was a saying that people use to use a lot in my town.

Anyway, I'm Amy Alexander. I live in this little borough called Rockledge, but when people ask me where I'm from I just say Philly. I am the youngest child in my family. My one sibling's name is Tara and she is a senior at Boston University for graphic design. Also, I have a little dog, named Gretta. She's a miniature longhaired dachshund and maybe the most adorable dog there is. Anyway, I went to Abington High School and was in a grade of about 580 people. So it was a normal sized high school and a pretty pleasant place. There I was a part of the school’s orchestra and musicals. I was basically in the music wing all the time. All right, to be perfectly honestly, I do not have a clue to write in here at the moment. Hopefully my entries will get better as I go on, but as for now I can not really think of anything other than I just got a bunch of work that was just thrown at me from all of my teachers. Well that’s about it for now. I promise next time it will be more interesting.
