Communicating is something that all animals do. Humans are also communicate in a very similar way. A lot of this communication is non verbal. A dog can be verbal such as a dog barking a warning or a cat arching its back, or crickets chirping, animals are constantly sending messages to each other even it is non verbal. Scientists studying communication among animals are trying to understand the neurobiology of sound production and perception. They are interested in understanding how both the human brain and the non-human primate brain perceive speech. They are trying to determine how similar humans are to animals. There are certain areas of the brain that have been mapped and linked to communication abilities. The planum temporale (PT) is widely accepted as a key component of the language area of the brain. This part of the brain evaluates the significance of content words. It is also linked to behaviors presumed to be distinctly human, including musical talent and handedness (whether we are right or left handed). By studying Animals you can relate the communication and the things that happen in the brain back to humans.

3. Definitional Blog: What is Plagiarism?

There is a thin line between a great paper and a zero. Plagiarism is a terrible thing that a lot of innocent people get accused of unknowingly. Then again others are accused of plagiarism and deserve the punishment given to them. Plagiarism is also a scary topic for students because they don’t want to even be close to that line of possibly receiving a zero for a paper that they spent numerous hours on. Imagine spending hours writing a paper and end up receiving a zero for it and being accused of plagiarism. You spend hours researching before you can even start to compose your paper. Next you spend another hour making an outline for the paper so that you have a well structured paper. You make a rough, revise and revise again. You get all of your friends to peer edit the paper and finally have your final draft. You feel relieved finally having your paper done, the next day you turn in the paper. When you get the paper back it has a zero on the top with the word “Plagiarism” written in bright red sharpie. Your teacher later confronts you and tells you that she needs to see you after class. You find out that one of your sentences is almost word for word as the source you got it from. This was a complete freak accident, you would never do something like this. There is nothing that your teacher can do, you receive a zero on the paper and are labeled and talked about by all the other teachers as a “Plagiarizer.” All of this because you crossed the line. This is the line that defines a resourceful writer from a copier. Plagiarism is the thin line that a student walks when he writes. This line defines a good resourceful writer from a copy and paster.

It's General Tso's Chicken Time! Wow, when I woke up this morning I was thinking I’m kind of in the mood for Chinese food. Sure enough Pollock Commons came through with the General Tso’s Chicken. I said Screw limiting myself… I’m going all out. I went through the line and asked “Can I have a full plate of rice and general tso’s chicken.” I got half a plate! ...I was pissed, I got the rest of my food, sat it down and walked though the line again… yeah, this time they gave me the full plate. I ended up eating a plate of general tso’s chicken, a half plate of general tso’s chicken ( the rest of the plate filled with the pasta), a bowl of beef noodle soup, two grilled chicken breasts, and bowl of jell-o. Now that’s a feeling of satisfaction.

This is saying that first eating general tso’s chicken is good. It is also saying that by eating large quantities of food and not limiting yourself make you feel good. Also satisfaction is a feeling that you get when you are completely full and can’t eat anymore. This paragraph does not describe exactly what makes you happy when you eat mass quantities. Would you feel the same way if you ate a lot of other food other than general tso’s chicken? Can satisfaction be used to describe any other feeling and why was it used to describe the feeling of full? Other than the questions that I wanted answered when I read it this was a great blogg entry.
