Rob "Awesome" Vary's Blog |
4/28/06 - This is it, the last one. My final paper is linked above. All in all, it was a good semester in ENGL015. Thanks Kem, and anyone who helped along the way. Have a good summer and etc. Good night, and good luck.
4/19/06 - I watch Ghost Hunters, a show on the SciFi Channel. Hey Kem... Willard Library... ring a bell? Weird.
Yes, weird. I had to google the library since I'm not from Evansville, but some of my family lives there now. And the magic number for blogs is 37. TheKemBlog
4/10/06 - First off, I just would like to thank everyone for their input today, it helped a lot. This whole idea was probably one of Kem's best, I must say. Anyway, a couple of news stories have intrigued me. One I read in USA Today earlier today especially got me conerned. It's about a 6-year-old boy who called 9-1-1 when his 46-year-old mother collapsed on the floor in their home. The dispatcher told the boy to stop fooling around or the police will show up at his door, and to give the phone to an adult. Wow. Seriously. I don't care about pranksters and judgment of calls, I think every one should be taken seriously and dealt with. Even if it's just sending a cop over to check it or even calling a neighbor and making sure, something needs to happen for every 9-1-1 call. That's my thoughts. Ok, on a lighter note, this news story was quite humorous. Apparently, some guy put his wife's box for sale on eBay because his cock doesn't fit inside:
Cock, you know, a rooster, and a box, you know, a cardboard box. Good stuff. To add insult to injury, this site the story is on posted the comments/questions part on eBay up, and that's even better:
When eBay figured out was was going on here, they removed the "item" and banned the seller. Oh man, that was some good stuff. Funniest part: 11 bids, $5.50 highest bid. People are so wack. That's all for today, off to dinner and such, see you.
4/7/06 - Final Paper Proposal
“Remember, remember, the fifth of November, the gunpowder treason and plot. I know of no reason why this gunpowder treason should ever be forgot.” That is the opening quote, as recited by Natalie Portman, in the thrilling and captivating film V for Vendetta, by the Wachowski Brothers, and inspired by Alan Moore’s and David Lloyd’s graphic novel of the same title. I intend to: discuss, in detail, how the movie compares to the novel, address the political and/or social aspects of the novel’s writers, and investigate the political and/or social leanings implied by the movie’s writers. I will do this by first explaining the story out fully as the novel has written, then note the differences in the movie. I will explain all of the characters’ stories, the history behind Guy Fawkes, and how the writers of the novel decided on the “V” character’s motivations. By doing all of this, I hope to make my intent realized. My intent is to prove that although the movie version is almost an exact adaptation of the novel, it tells a practically different story. After you have read my paper, you should have realized the errors of the Wachowski Brothers’ ways. Also, if either the paper length hasn’t reached the required ten pages or if I deem it necessary, I will show the Wachowski Brothers have done this before with a previous series of movies: The Matrix Series. Hopefully I won’t have to go there, but, hey, “you gotta do what you gotta do.” As far as presentation goes, this will be no more than a regular paper that I will post on the wiki. I may add some pictures for emphasis, such as Guy Fawkes, buildings blowing up, movie posters, etc. A thought that was brewing in my mind was to have the soundtrack on my wiki available for listening. I might even throw the video of the trailer for the movie on there, I’m still undecided. I am not too sure about those last ideas, thoughts welcome.
