Well I guess you can say I am a momma’s boy because I miss my family and friends so much now that I am here at the wonderful Penn State University, but honestly I think everyone that reads this feels the same way about their family and friends. I grew up in the small town of Wheeling, WV, where growing up I was the only child, besides my sister within two miles of my house. As I entered school I was not shy at all, and my parents got me involved in many activities such as soccer, baseball, and flag football, therefore I made very many friends very quickly.

This is the first time I really have been away from my family and friends for an extended period of time and mentally it is kind of hard. It is very different not waking up and eating breakfast with my brother, and sitting down with all of my family to eat dinner. My sister Cara is two years younger than I and even though we are many years apart we are still very close. We talk to one another about everything and even though she is still younger than me I still take advice that she gives me. She also plays some of the same sports as me therefore we help one another with the different skills and techniques it takes to succeed in playing the game.

I also have a very close relationship with my grandmother, aunts and uncles, and my cousins. Every year we all get together for a reunion just have a good time together. Over the years I have formed such a strong relationship with all of my aunts and uncles that I see them as parents away from home. My cousins are the same way. Even though I am the oldest in the family I still love talking with them and giving advice like I do with my own sister.

It is not just my family that I miss from back home, but also all of my friends. I consider my friends just extended family of mine, because I come from a small town and we are all so close. I was the only one form my graduating class of eighty five to attend Penn State so I really don’t know many people that are up here from my high school, except for someone who graduated a year ahead of me in my high school.

I can honestly say I would give anything that I could for my family and friends. Throughout my eighteen years of life these two groups of people have made me into the young man I am today. I am just so thankful that I grew up with such loving friends and family to guide me through all the hard situations, and be with me for all the fun times I have had to face in my life.
