Hello everyone! My name is Kyle Chappelle, and I am from Elverson Pennsylvania, about twenty minutes south of Reading Pa. Right now I reside in Hartranft Hall with my roommate Matt, whom I get along with very well. I am very new to this blog thing, as well as other online journals such as Facebook, which my roommate got me to do. I graduated from Twin Valley High School this past June and am very excited to be at Penn State University. I love to play any sport that I am capable of especially soccer and badminton. Right now I am looking to end up as a Pre-medicine major and one day become and Orthopedic Surgeon.

Well I just returned from the bookstore where I had to spend more money on books for different classes, but whatever I will just have to suck it up. Other than all of the work I have to do for classes, I love it here at Penn State. Everyone that I have met so far has been very nice and extremely friendly. I have found that if you just get over the fear of talking to people you meet many new interesting people some of which are like you. Classes in general are a lot tougher than high school, for example I spent two hours today on math homework and another two hours reading chemistry and doing the homework for that class. The food here is wonderful, not as good as home, but very good for cafeteria food. Well Saturday is a big day for all of you Penn State football fans, I hope everyone is there at 3:30 for kickoff, so we can watch PSU football win their first game this season!

Well this was an awesome weekend. On Friday night I got to hang out with some of my high school buddies that came up to Penn State, we had a good time. On Saturday some family friends came to the Penn State, Southern Florida game. I went out to breakfast with them then we had a tailgate party with burgers and other good food. I split my time tailgating with them and my roommate’s family before entering the game. Wow, what an experience going to my first college football game and sitting in the student section to say the least. It was an awesome time screaming every play and not being able to hear the person next to you. I am glad that we won and I can’t wait to see Penn State have a winning season and make a bowl game hopefully. Sunday a friend from high school came to visit from Pittsburgh so we had fun relaxing with some guys from my floor and going out to eat. When all that fun was over I spent the whole day on Monday doing my homework and such so I don’t fall behind in my first semester here, because that would not be good. When I got it all finished I relaxed and watched a movie with the guys on my floor.

Well I have to say I have no idea what I am doing on this site. I tried to read The Diamond Sutra, and honestly I have no idea what it was saying. I tried to look at other people’s blogs about it but no one really has anything. So I will post later when I actually understand it. Anyway I am having a little trouble with this whole remix thing but I think I will get a hang of it soon. Tonight I get to miss the first football game of the season because of all the homework I have, don’t you just love college. Hopefully this weekend I will have no homework that way I can enjoy myself at the football game and relaxing with my friends that are coming up from home. Well I am going to get back to the “remix” and buddhest. If anyone has any suggestions please feel free to instant message me at willywonka527.

Okay I think I have got this Diamond Sutra stuff. What Buddha says compares to Happy Valley in a number of ways. First, everyone that goes to Penn State comes from somewhere different whether it is location or background. Even through this we all come to Penn State for the same reason, to have fun and get a good education. Second, everyone at Happy Valley is like one big family, we are all friendly and no one is rude to another. For example at the football games everyone gets the chills down their spine when they see the opening video before the game. This shows that we are all here for one another and we are proud to be Penn Staters.

It was the summer after senior year, and I was having the time of my life. My life was great, I had a good job, lots of friends to hang out with, and senior week. Either way I was having the best time of my life. I worked every weekday, and every night and weekend I was either hanging out with my friends or relaxing with my family. After all, the summer after your senior year of high school are supposed to be some of the best in your life. But on that mid-afternoon day of August 17 it took me only seconds to realize that not all events after your senior year are positive, and that in a second you can go from a high to a low.

On August 17, I woke up just like any normal eighteen year old does. I rolled out of bed, brushed my teeth, ate breakfast, and packed my lunch for work. I gathered my belongings for work that day. I got to work that day and just found out that I wasn’t going to be in the field doing percolation tests, but rather running to Lowes to get parts to fix a generator that had broke the day before. I jumped into the company truck and headed up Route 100 toward Pottstown. I arrived at Lowes and found all of the parts I needed to fix the generator, and got back to the truck and went to head back to the office.

It had just stared to rain outside when I left Lowes so I slowed down while driving making sure I was safe in the slick rain. I turned the music on the radio down so I could concentrate on the road and the other people on the road. Up ahead I saw a sign for a bridge and a tight turn. I slowed down to about 25 mph and went around the turn and over the concrete bridge. As I came across the bridge and headed from the concrete to the pavement I started to fell the bed of the truck go out from me and the front end of the truck get away also. I swerved into the other lane and saw oncoming traffic ahead. To my right I caught a glimpse a field so I turned the wheel hard to the right to try to avoid the traffic and head into the field.

BANG! I had just squeezed between two trees and hit another tree head on. Shaken up I noticed the windshield had shattered and the front end smashed. I quickly unbuckled my seatbelt and pushed the bent door open and let myself out of the truck. A civilian that had stopped helped me check over myself for cuts and bruises. When I go a hold of myself I realized what had just happened. I had successfully avoided the oncoming traffic and hit a tree in the field. The bad part was that now I had just totaled the company truck. I panicked thinking my boss was going to ream me out when he found out but to my comfort he was just happy that I was alright, he could have cared less about the truck.

As a result of my accident I developed characteristics that are either stronger now than they were before or are new altogether. For example I do not try to take for granted the things I have. I now realize that there is always a chance that something could go wrong so live life to its fullest and don’t make a mess out of it. Also be aware of your surroundings when you drive because I could have taken another life in this accident if I hadn’t gone into the field. I also feel my relationship with God is now stronger maybe because I realize that it was him steering that truck and not me. In general though I am very thankful with what happened as a result of the accident and am glad it didn’t just have a horrible impact on my life.

Well it’s back to class again, and my first Monday of the semester, how crappy. This past weekend with the football game and my friends from high school visiting was the best weekend I have had up here yet. Even though the football game was fun noon for a kickoff time is a little bit too early I would say. After the game we went to a few tailgates to get some food and then we started a pick-up game of football. That night I showed my friends around campus and downtown, which they loved and now they want to go here instead of Delaware. Sunday when they went to get their car at the hotel they parked at it wasn’t there! The parking lot was paved over the weekend so all the cars were towed to the local impound, what a crazy couple of hours trying to find it. Well they got off finally at like 9 at night so at least they found it and mom and dad don’t have to know what happened!

Last night I watched the weirdest movie I have ever seen in my entire life Crash. It was a great movie but it was like all over the place. I think the movie was about racism and how it affects different cultures that have to interact with one another. Even though the movie had like six different plots it was an exciting movie to sit down and watch with all of the guys. Also the cinematography in the movie was excellent the way the director showed the different scenes throughout the movie. All in all it was a good break from homework and I strongly recommend Crash to anyone who needs a change of pace in the movies the watch.

Well I decided to write a blog entry before I started to write my argument paper. Yesterday at the football game was so much fun. Once again I lost my voice screaming for Penn State in their 40-3 win over CMU. I am really excited for this year because now we have three more wins to let us contend for a bowl this year. So last night was really fun hanging with the guys from the sixth floor of Hartranft before we all went to bed. Right now I am watching the Eagles kick the crap out of the San Francisco 49ers, go eagles! Well I guess I should get started on this paper so good luck to everyone who is in my situation starting this paper.

How To Pour a Bowl of Cereal

1. Get all of the supplies needed to perform the task: a carton of milk, a normal sized soup bowl, a box of your favorite cereal.

2. Set your bowl on a hard surface like a table or a counter

3. Make sure your box of cereal is facing up, a good indication of this is you can easily read the writing on the box

4. Carefully pull apart the flaps on the top of the box that are laying one under the other

5. Lift the plastic bag about a quarter of the way out of the cereal box making sure the box is still upright on the table

6. At the corner of the seam of the plastic bag carefully pull apart about five inches of the seam so now you have a small opening so you can access the cereal

7. With the bag still partially out of the box tilt the box and point the opening of the bag at the bowl and let the bowl fill about halfway with cereal, then tilt the box back into the upright position to stop filling the bowl

8. Take your milk and unscrew the cap off of the container

9. Tilt the container over the bowl and slowly pour enough milk into the bowl to make sure no cereal or milk overflows out of the bowl

10. When enough milk is in the bowl tilt the milk back into the upright position

11. Enjoy

Honor is like Respect

Respect is something you earn from other people from something you did

Honor is something you earn from doing something for other people

Therefore honor is like freedom

Well I think I am going to turn over a new leaf this month and try to post five times a week and not forget to. So this weekend was one of the best I have had here so far. Can anyone say 5-0, what a season Penn State football is having. Next weekend is going to be crazy up here with Ohio State coming to town and I think we have potential to go 6-0. My dad and brother decided to come up for the game at the last second so I had to find them some tickets. I found a deal that was unreal, two tickets for 40 dollars. So they enjoyed the game and are excited to come up again soon to see Penn State win some more games and maybe go to a bowl game.

Alright so maybe my October resolution isn’t totally true but it was worth a shot. This week has been so hectic with all of the work and the pledging at the fraternity. On a good note thought Ohio State is coming to town on Saturday to get the butts handed to them and watch Penn State go 6-0 and on their way to a bowl game. I am so ready for the game, I have my paint so I can paint my entire body white and most of my voice back so I can cheer my team on. Cold Pizza is going to be at the stadium tomorrow morning at 7 o’clock so I have to go; there is no question about it. Well I have to get some more homework done so I can go to bed early and get ready for the weekend.

Causal Argument 1 This article states that caffiene is not addictive, but rather is a stimulant that makes one from habits that deal with caffiene. If you drink a large amount of caffiene every day then decide to stop you may feel the reprocusions of the caffiene becasue your body is so used to having it every day.

Causal Argument 2 Many people in many countries around the world face poverty in many different forms. One of the first causes of poverty is a low income. As stated in the article many people around the world make less than two dollars a day which even with their lifestyle is very hard to live off of. Also there is much poverty due to the lack of education throughout the world. Many cultures only believe in teaching the traditions of their culture and not like reading or writing. In general poverty is all over the world and is spreading every coming year, and every year promises are made to try to end it but they are sometimes never reached.

Remix of stigmergy:

The concept of stigmergy was introduced by Pierre-Paul Grasse in the 1950's to describe the communication that could not be physically seen between insects. Stigmergy was originally defined by Grasse in his studies on the reconstruction of termite nests. Grasse showed that the unity between the termites during the building activity did not depend on the workers themselves but is mainly achieved by the nest: a specific sense triggers a response of a termite worker, which makes it do its job, but in turn is somehow sent to another worker in the colony to do the same task, then to another worker and another and so on. Although Grasse's concept of stigmergy was attractive and stimulating, it has been overlooked by students of social insects because it does not show how stimuli must be organized in time and space to allow everything in the colony to act as one. Despite the vagueness of Grasse's formulation, stigmergy is a profound concept, the results of the communication between insects of which are yet to be explored. Not only is stigmergy of potential importance for our understanding of the evolution of animals and insects, as well as understanding the communication between them. It may also turn out to be a crucial concept in other fields, such as artificial intelligence, robotics, or the social, political and economic sciences. The aims of this special issue of Artificial Life on stigmergy are: - to provide readers from a variety of fields with an overview of what is known (and what is not) about stigmergy in various contexts such as ethology, distributed problem-solving and robotics, - to invite researchers in these fields to present their new work, - and to give the opportunity to researchers from other scientific communities to present their work in the light of stigmergy.

MegSmith Causal Argument

This article talks about how new studies are saying that obese people store more fat in their muscles than normal which make it hard for them to lose a lot of weight. thesis: The muscle of obese people appears to be programmed store more fat than that of lean people Reasons A fat building enzyme is found to be more abundant in obese peoples muscles rather than lean humans. Cells in a lean person are significantly different than that of an obese person, but when lean cells are genetically altered then they perfrom as if they were obese persons cells.

What is plagiarism?

According to Webster’s dictionary plagiarism is defined as; to appropriate as ones won the writings of another. In similar terms plagiarism is when someone uses someone else’s writing as their own. For example if a student is doing a research paper and is finding information from a book if they use the exact words used by the author they are researching from in their own paper it is considered plagiarism. There are ways to get around plagiarism though. Using right citations can prevent plagiarism because you acknowledge what the person has written.

Evaluation Argument

http://www.louisville.edu/~fdbail02/

This evaluation argument is about the movie Men of Honor, starring Cuba Gooding Jr. and Robert DeNiro. This evaluation focuses on two critics as well as the author of the paper evaluating the movie on its length, impact, and acting. The author does not really do a good job of arguing whether the evaluation by the critics is either a good or bad one. His arguments and counter arguments always follow one another so it is hard to tell what is what and what point he is taking with each argument.

Also it is hard to follow which critic says what about the movie because the author does not make it clear whose opinion he is talking about at each time. It is clear that one of the critics likes the movie and one does not think that it was all that good, but sometimes you do not know which is which. On the other hand, it is easy to see that the author took a liking to the movie and didn’t have many negative things to say about it, like the one critic

MovieReviewFinal

Well I was told I have to come up with an idea for my final project, but I am not to sure what i want to write it on quite yet. I really want my topic to be something I enjoy writing about and not somthing that I am going to have to dread to write. I mean ten pages is a heck of a lot to write on a topic so I should definitly pick a topic that I enjoy. I had an idea in class the other day but someone else told me that is what they were doing so I am between a rock and a hard place right now.

WillyWonkaProposal

Well today I looked around for a few more ideas about what to write about for my final project because I am not to sure if I want to do such a contraversal topic. While looking I really didnt find much so I think I am going to keep what I have and just make sure I do a really good job writing it. Tomorrow in class we go over my idea so I will see there about what people in the class think about it and it should help me to decide on whether I should keep it or not.
