First Entry Wednesday, August 31, 2005

First off, I noticed that the structure of this site is a little confusing, so I put a tree breakdown at the bottom of this page. Hopefully it helps.

Anyway, I had no clue what to call my blog. It took me about 15 minutes to think my cheesy title "WynesWorld." The 'WaynesWorld' movies were pretty good though. So we're here at college for our first week. I moved in last tuesday, which was about 3 days before most freshman moved in. It was rather quiet and unexpected. I knew it wasn't going to be like that for long, so I enjoyed it while it lasted. My oldest brother graduated from this university two years ago I think, and my other brother is in his 4th year. So i pretty much knew my way around and what everything was like as soon as I started. College life is a lot different than High School. Oddly enough however, it doesn't feel all that different. I'm not sure why it feels the same even though so much is different. Anyone else feel this way, or just me?

To conclude, I heard this quote yesterday from a friend and I thought it would be a good thing to post:

"I never let school get in the way of my education." - Mark Twain

In the summer of 2003, I went on a hiking trip to Mount Washington NH. We had as 54 mile hike planned. On our second day, we realized that the mountains of New Hampshire are nothing like the mountains around home. There is a rather long story about the whole trip that I may detail later.

This picture was taken halfway down Mount Washington, which by the way is known for the worst weather on the planet. The picture leads the viewer to believe otherwise. The highest wind speed ever recorded was recorded in the observatory on top this mountain at 231 MPH.

Class Sizes Thursday, September 01, 2005

When my brothers both started school here a couple years ago, I remember them telling me how big their general education classes were. I don't know about anyone else, but most of my classes are rather small. I went to a small high school that graduated about 110 students every year. I expected to come to PSU and have most of my classes with over 100 students. I was surprised to find out that most of my classes are just a little larger than high school.

Quote of the day:

"Fight fire with marshmallows." - Robin Williams

Comments:

My graduating HS class had 52 in it, and my college had a total of 800 students. PSU is much larger! TheKemBlog (Nice comment function, by the way.)

This picture of one of the many signs at the base of the mountain reminded me of a cartoon. Since we'll be covering cartoons in class, it was a nice fit.

The sign is kind of funny. But for some reason, it loses its affect when you go to climb the mountain. Even though we were there in the middle of the summer, there was still snow in the ravine, which I will show tomorrow.
