I need to write Monday, September 05, 2005

I think I may be posting too many pictures and not doing enough blog writing. This is probably because I have no clue what else to talk about and because I think it's easier to show and explain things with more than just text such as pictures. But I guess that's why we're doing this, so that I can make my writing as vivid as a picture.

Location:Tuckerman Ravine of Mount Washington, NH

This is a small corner of the huge slab of snow/ice in the ravine in the middle of summer. In the center of the slab, the ice was probably at least 30 feet deep.

Technology Tuesday, September 06, 2005

This past summer, I got a job working for a mortgage company. My oldest brother, who works there full time, got me this job. I worked with about five other programmers. They make software to manage the business and I would help with some programming, and near the end of the summer they gave me two of my own projects. I think the programs I made came out pretty nicely. But anyway...

One day, walking back to the building after lunch I started to think. I noticed how much easier it was to write programs now than it was a couple years ago when I started programming. I remembered the most complicated code was needed to do the simplest tasks. But now, everything is (in my mind) very easy to program. I was wondering if, by time I'm out of college, programmers will be needed as much. This is probably erally boring to everyone else, but I can't help but think of how easy it is for anyone nowadays to carry a PDA and a cell phone around that can be taken back to their computer and all synchronized together. I guess I'm also saying that it's hard to be generally known as a "computer guy" anymore. Computers are in everything now, and there's no way to catch up and learn about everything that has a computer. But back to the point of programming being so easy. I don't know if anyone reading this is familiar with the latest development environments, but they are very easy to use. Most now have graphic interfaces so that you can drag and drop. Another nice feature of this software is auto-complete. It pratically writes the program for you.

Well, now that I noticed this isn't a very good post and people won't enoy reading, I think I will end it here->.

>>Well, you'll still be the person who makes it all work. Plus you may be uniquely situated to understand the ways in which technological changes challenge human environments. There's a recent rant in my space on this last topic. TheKemBlog

The cell phone/pda/mp3 player/everything device Thursday, September 08, 2005

You may notice a common subject about most of my blogs. They are usually about technology. This entry is no exception. It's rather obvious that all the little gadgets that people have are trying to merge with one another. Motorola teamed up with Apple to put a small version of an ipod in their next phone. Phones have had small features from PDA's such as calendars and voice record for a while now. In the not too distant future, everyone will be carrying around one device that does everything. Though I do like technology, I don't entirely like the way technology is changing the world. I don't think it's a good idea to rely on your one device for everything. You may need to study for a test the next day and say "Oh crap, my notes crashed!" Technology definetly has its benefits in certain places, but there's some things that need to be done the old-fashioned way.

Remixing Friday, September 09, 2005

I found that it is hard to remix someone else's narrative. This is mainly because everyone tells a story of his/herself, and it is hard/impossible to remix the story of someone else to fit myself.
