Driving is something that most people do without even thinking to hard. To most people driving comes naturally after years of experience. Many of my friends live in the city of Philadelphia. I on the other hand live right outside of the city. One of my favorite things to do is go to the city and just hang out with my friends, watch movies, party a little bit; you know the typical things that teenagers do. You may or may not know, but traffic in the city is usually bumper to bumper during rush hour, and even pretty packed at other times. One hot summer evening I was on my way to the city to hang out with my friends, nothing out of the ordinary. My sister was driving me there because at the time I was sixteen and not yet able to drive myself. Everything was all well until one incident that changed my life then and still affects me to this day; in a sense it totally changed the way I look at life. We were sitting at a red light in our 1999 Pontiac Sunfire, staring and waiting hoping it would change soon. The light turned green so we went. Out of the corner of my eye I began to see this red object moving at a high speed coming down the street, and by the time I was able to yell to my sister, BAM!! We got hit by a red pickup truck. The truck nailed the back driver side of the car, spun the car one hundred eighty degrees. At first I could not think, could not move. I was in such a state of shock it was almost as if my mind and body went numb. When I was finally able to realize what jus happened I felt an unbearable pain in my leg, but that was not what I was worried about. I turn over to see if my sister was okay, I’m asking “Lori are you alright, Lori answer me”, but I got nothing. I then realized that she was unconscious, I had no idea what I should do. The driver of the truck appeared to be okay. He got out of the truck which had been very messed up in the front and ran over to our car. He called the police right away and no more then 5 minutes, which felt like an hour, the cops and ambulance were there. Watching your sister being taken out of the car and put on a stretcher is not something you ever want to see. The emotions that were running through me were almost more then I could handle. As they help me to get out of the car I see everyone just standing around watching, tears in the eyes of some of them. I was lucky and got away with only a broken leg. My sister on the other hand was not. She had a concussion, broken arm, and 2 broken ribs. We both had our seatbelts on which probably saved our lives. All this happened because some impatient man couldn’t wait for the light so he decided to blow the red light. This was the scariest moment of my life and made me realize so many things. Don’t ever take life for granted because you never know what could happen. I think James Dean said it best when he said “Dream as if you’ll live forever. Live as if you’ll die today”
